ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO GAZA! Because of this worthy cause, I am asking for a $5 minimum donation. Thank you in advance for your generosity. The profits will be split between the Delia Arts Foundation (an amazing organization supporting the arts and bringing direct relief/aid in Gaza) and the family of Yahya Zakaria Abdel-Al, my Palestinian musician friend, to help them evacuate to Egypt, as their situation in Gaza continues to be dangerous and dire. I'm honored to have Yahya as one of the drummers on this song. (I will share receipts on social media, and I am happy to share them with you by request, as well.)

about

This song is from the perspective of me talking with my little brother (who passed away in November 2021) about the atrocities happening in Gaza. It's a song about grief and hope, heartache and healing, resting and rising.

lyrics

“Rest Then Rise” by Ivy Eld

Flaming flower petals catch my tears
I’m drowning in the chaos and the fear
Two years ago you left me, you left me standing here
Your tender heart a sponge for pain
Lightning and terror strike the east
Crushing every hope we had of peace
I cry for the sacred life taken while we sleep
Will this violent cycle ever change?

I feel caught in a nightmare, life is so unjust
Why do some suffer so, while others feast on much?

So I stop and I breathe, fall on the earth and grieve
The leaves start to whisper my name
I hear the healing songs of the ancient ones long gone
Pulsing in the air and in my veins
They say, “Child, please rest, then rise.”

I wonder what you’d think of today’s news
You always were digging for the truth
Your tortured brain a prism reflecting divergent views
Peeling back the veil of life’s trance
I watch in horror at destruction’s haze
Vibrant colors fade to deathly grey
A child’s birthday cut short, she should be free to play
But bombs and greed snuffed out her chance

I feel caught in a nightmare, I’m so tired of this fight
My bleeding heart and one small voice scream into the night

So I stop and I breathe, fall on the earth and grieve
The leaves start to whisper my name
I hear the healing songs of the ancient ones long gone
Pulsing in the air and in my veins
They say, “Child, please rest..."

So I stop and I breathe, fall on the earth and grieve
The leaves start to whisper my name
I hear the healing songs of the ancient ones long gone
Pulsing in the air and in my veins
They say, “Child, please rest, then rise.”

"Rest and Rise" is dedicated to the brave and beautiful people of Palestine. As we fight for your freedom, you are setting hearts free all around the world. You have changed us forever.

And may this song honor the memory of my little brother, Nathan Andrew Webb, and one of the percussionists on this track, Ali Ahmed, who was recently killed in the Gaza genocide.
